Use Your Order Status Page to Strengthen Your Relationships with Your Customers
If you're here, then you probably care about each and every step in your customers’ journey with your brand.
You care because you understand that true growth for your business comes from giving massive value to customers, care about them and their experience, and creating strong connections with them.
Customers who enjoyed their experience shopping form you to purchase again, and loyalcustomers are both cheaper to acquire and spend more in your store than first-time customers do.
Well, I'm willing to bet that there is one resource on your store that can jump up yo customer retention rate as well as help you strengthen your relationships with your customers, that you have not been using up until now.
The order confirmation page.
In this post, I will go through five different ways you can use your order confirmation page to create stronger, longer lasting relationships with your customers.
A Personal Note
Saying thank you after your customer purchased is pretty much an industry standard by now, what about making it more personal and displaying it straight after your customer finished her purchase.
You can add a note personally written by you to your customer to spank her for her purchase from you, and maybe even use the opportunity to give her some more details about you your brand and upcoming events or collections that you think she should know about.
To make it even more attractive add an image- you can be an image of your logo or a product from your store, but ideally, you would add a picture of yourself along with the thank you note for your customer.
You can use this opportunity to tell the story of your brand, why you do what you do and why it is important for you that each one of your customers is pleased with their purchase and experience with you.
Use this opportunity to make your customers feel special and cared for as well as to get to know you a little bit better and already start feeling this connection building between you.
Add a Video
Adding a video to your order confirmation page allows you to connect with your customers using a medium that most people these days I'm more comfortable with than written text.
Video is king in today's content world, it does not mean that there is no space for other content types, but this is the preferred type for most people.
You can use video to do a few different things on the auto confirmation page:
- Speak directly to your customer- use your voice to speak directly to your customer, thanking them for the purchase and invited them to keep in touch with you on other platforms
- Explain what the customer should expect now- explain very clearly the shipping process, if you have a complicated for that you can explain it's usage, and make sure your customer knows what she should expect from now on
- Provide information- use video as a way to educate your customers about your Niche, and reestablish yourself as an authority figure in the field
Make the videos you put on that order confirmation page light and fun, try to Delight your customers and keep your brand’s tone cohesive an authentic.
A customer arriving at the thank you page( the confirmation page) is already someone who showed an amount of interest in your brand- they have just agreed to purchase from you.
Walking on this assumption, it is the perfect opportunity to invite this customer to follow you on social media and stay in touch with you there.
Once a customer who follows you on social media, you can guarantee that she will see your content and marketing in the future, and doesn't get lost in the noise.
You need to make sure, of course, that your social media profiles are interesting and engaging and keep on par with the rest of your brand’s agenda and tone of voice.
You can incentivize your customers to follow you on social media, by offering them discounts and special deals but only your followers get, you can just remind them that if they're interested in the same things that you are they should follow you and get more of that content.
Saying thank you is not always enough, you might want to show your appreciation in a more practical way, by rewarding your customer for the purchase.
A mistake a lot of brands do is to offer different rewards and incentives for potential customers who have not yet purchased in the form of discounts and special deals, while completely neglecting these customers who have already purchased, and deserve the reward the most.
Offering a special deal just for people who have purchased from you right on the order confirmation page, gives you the opportunity to both show your customers that you appreciate their business and genuinely want to say thank you, as well as to re-convert them again before they even left your website.
A few different ways you could do that are:
- Offer a discount for the whole store
- Offer a specific discount for products or collections relating to the purchase the customer just made
- Offer a time-sensitive discount, only valid for a certain amount of time post-purchase
- Display a popup to make sure your customers don't miss out on the discount you're offering
Whichever method you choose to use, saying thank you on a more practical level will both strengthen your relationship with the customer and get them the buy again- providing you with an extra sale.
Get to Know Your Customers
Last but definitely not least, use your thank you page as the opportunity to get to know your customers a little bit better.
This will help you in two main ways:
- Make sure your customers are pleased and your messages come across as you intended
- Collect more data about your customers that you can later use two segments them and market to them more personally in a way that will be relevant to them
Get customers’ birthdays
Adds a birthday collector to your thank you page, get in your customers birthdays and promising them a special birthday gift on their very special day.
This will allow you to contact your customers again on their birthdays, celebrate with them and maybe even offer them a unique gift or discount to your store.
Celebrating birthdays with your customers turn on your relationship with them more personal under one hand, and gives you an excuse to contact them again if they have not purchased from you in a while on the other one.
Display post-purchase survey to get your customers opinions on the border, store, and their General experience buying from you.
You can use these surveys to ask whatever you want formula customers, and the likelihood of them answering the survey on the thank you page is much greater than that of them switching a link to answer a survey in an email that you are sending later on.
You can use the answers from these surveys to learn more about your customers, where they come from and what they are interested in, as well to, as I mentioned, segment your customers and create more effective marketing.
